If your PR or SC application has been denied, you have the option to submit an appeal letter requesting the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) to review their decision. It is important to carefully consider your next steps, as an unsuccessful appeal could delay the process of reapplying for PR or SC. Therefore, it is generally recommended to appeal only if there have been significant changes in your circumstances since your original application.
You can submit an application for ICA’s consideration if you have been working here on an Employment Pass or S Pass.

You do not need to have an employer’s sponsorship to apply for permanent residence.
Your child may apply Singapore citizenship and Permanent Resident (PR) concurrently under your/your spouse sponsorship and ICA will process them accordingly. One facility will not affect the other. However, each facility will be processed according to the prevailing guidelines.

A Singapore citizen may obtain Permanent Residency (PR) of another country. However, a Singapore citizen aged 21 years and above is not allowed to hold dual citizenship.
Under Article 135(1)(b) and 135(1)(c) of the Singapore Constitution, a Singapore citizen who has been away from Singapore for a continuous period of 10 years or more without a valid Singapore passport may be deprived of his Singapore citizenship.
You are advised to have a valid Singapore travel document if you wish to remain outside of Singapore for more than 10 years.
There is no provision to reinstate the PR status of those who have renounced their status voluntarily. If you are Interested to become a Singapore PR again, you may submit a fresh application to us for consideration if you meet the prevailing application criteria for PR.
Yes, the re-application will be considered on its own merits under the prevailing conditions at that time. If the application is successful, you will also need to re-instate whatever CPF contributions (with interest) that you have withdrawn.
Your spouse may apply for SC if he/she has been a PR for at least two years. You may apply for your overseas-born children to become Singapore citizens if either you or your spouse is a Singapore citizen.
Yes, you may sponsor your parents to stay in Singapore using a long-term visit pass.
Your children will have to apply for PR on their own merits.
One of the key obligations is the serving of National Service for second generation male Permanent Residents. Second generation male permanent residents refer to those who became PR under the sponsorship of another person (e.g. their parents or spouse). Upon reaching 16½ years of age, they need to enlist for National Service (NS) and will serve two years of full-time NS at 18 years of age. Thereafter, they will serve intermittent duty as a citizen-soldier for a cycle of 10 years.
A person who is above 21 years of age is eligible to apply for Singapore Citizenship after having spent two years as a permanent resident in Singapore.
Navigating an application is more complex than it seems—it’s not just about filling out forms and translating documents. ICA evaluates various aspects of your profile that the general public may not be aware of.
ICA does not share specific information on the assessment of applications.
All applications for PR are carefully considered and reviewed by ICA. Factors such as the applicant’s family ties to Singaporeans, economic contributions, length of residency in Singapore, ability to contribute to and integrate into Singapore, and commitment to sinking roots in Singapore are considered, among other factors.
If there are additional or updated information or documents since your last application, you may consider submitting a fresh application online. Please reach out to us for profile scanning.

Main applicants who are granted Singapore PR status under the Professionals/Technical Personnel and Skilled Workers Scheme or the Investor Scheme may be exempted from NS. Male applicants who are granted Singapore PR status as a Foreign Student or under their parents’ sponsorship are required to register for NS upon reaching 16 ½ years old and will be scheduled for enlistment at the earliest opportunity upon reaching 18 years old. MINDEF allows students to attain educational qualifications up to the ‘A’ Levels certificate, the polytechnic diploma or an equivalent before they are required to serve NS. They will be enlisted at the earliest opportunity when they have finished such courses, or after turning 18, whichever is later. MINDEF does not grant deferment for university studies, regardless of whether such studies have begun.
Males who are granted Singapore PR, and who were previously Singapore Citizens or Singapore PRs, are liable to be called up for NS regardless of the scheme under which their Singapore PR status was granted.
